    In spite of the fact that the final version of Joomla! 1.5 has not released yet, many already now try to create sites on its basis. Therefore, I often asked in comments to posts and by e-mail for release the version of a PDA-plugin for Joomla! 1.5.

    So, the first version of a pda-plugin for Joomla! 1.5 is released. The set of functions is practically identical to functions of a pda-mambot 2.1.2 (but not all functions have passed a full set of tests), but they now are broken into two parts: the part of functions is tuned in options of a pda-plugin, and the part is tuned in options of a pda-template.

    As before, first you need to install a pda-template, and then a pda-plugin. After necessary changes to options of a pda-template and a pda-plugin will be made, it is simply enough to activate pda-plugin.

    One of difficulties with which you can confront, consists in the list of positions for modules has no positions added in options of a pda-template. In this case simply enter the name of a position from the keyboard, instead of choose it from the list.

    The WAFL Joomla! extension consists of 6 Joomla! extensions: three Plugins, a Component, a Template and a Module. However, we implemented an easy one-zip-upload-installation.

    Also, these included extensions can be configured in a central place: our admin panel Component.

    Our plugins will support 3 modes of operation. The selected mode will be activated when the plugin detects that a request is coming from a mobile device

    • Template Switching: The CMS admin will be able to select a template that will be used for mobile requests. Our plugin also contains a mobile template, which the CMS admin can select.
    • Mobile Redirect: The visitor will be redirected to a URL that the CMS admin can specifiy.
    • Siruna: When this mode is activated, the plugin will redirect any mobile requests to an instance of the Siruna platform. It will also deliver a mobile template (enriched with information for Siruna) to requests coming from the Siruna platform.

    I designed this initially to serve different templates for iPhone/iPod users. But you can use this for other browsers too, for example, if you wish to serve different templates for iMac, Windows and Linux users.
